The Goddess Curriculum: Recovery through Empowerment is a weekly group therapy for women who have had a trauma event in their lives. Many women who have experienced something that brought on overwhelming feelings of fear, hopelessness, or helplessness find themselves having a hard time forgetting what happened. They may have upsetting memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and strong physical reactions to any reminders of the event. Many also feel numb and disconnected from their loved ones. They may feel like the world is a cruel, unsafe place or that they are a bad person unworthy of any connections. It might be hard to concentrate, sleep, or face any situation where they might be reminded of something that happened in their trauma event. It’s also very common to feel constantly on edge, unsafe, irritable, and have a hard time relaxing enough to unwind. Most people who have these types of trauma symptoms also go on to feel depressed, anxious, and might reach for alcohol or drug use. They may also feel shut off from their bodies or notice more physical pain.
The Goddess Curriculum group can help you understand the reactions you had at the time of the experience and what you’re going through now. Making sense of our body’s natural reactions to a threatening situation helps us to better feel like the event is not happening each day. This way, you can again feel safe and comfortable enough to sleep better, handle upsetting memories more easily, and do the things you once loved. The group setting also helps us to better reconnect with loved ones and ourselves.
You will get “unstuck” from that ongoing loop of reliving and escaping the trauma event and get your life back. You will feel more in control of you body, feelings, and actions. Living your day-to-day life again and celebrating bigger events can become things to cherish again rather than feel overwhelmed and crippled by.
Over the last twelve years, I have seen many women, men, children, and teens regain the fulfilling life they want and deserve to live. I know that these steps can be intense, but I also know that you are not going through them alone – even when it feels like it. I will be supporting and guiding you through the process to help you refocus, reconnect, and regroup when it gets hard. And I will remind you that you have done the hardest part already: surviving the trauma. Now you are doing the most important part: getting help to get your life back on track. I look forward to helping you with that!
